Here Are the Project Management Certifications You’ll Need in 2022 to Get Ahead

If 2022 is your year to go after a promotion or a new opportunity, you’ll need a way to show how committed you are to your own professional development. Here’s what we predict will get you the recognition you deserve.

If you’re currently in a technical role but also have some project management responsibilities, you might be looking for a way to formalize your role and move into full-time project management. The place to start is with the PMP certification. The Project Management Professional (PMP)® is the world’s leading project management certification, and most employers will be looking for it on your project management resume. The certification now includes predictive, agile, and hybrid approaches, so it helps prove that you’ll be effective in any working environment or business model. If your company is just beginning to explore Scrum as a method, you’ll want to explore the Disciplined Agile® Scrum Master (DASM) certification. The DASM certification equips you to successfully lead agile teams, so you can future-proof your career in a world in which agile is quickly becoming the preferred style of project management. The Disciplined Agile® tool kit includes hundreds of proven practices, including Scrum, Kanban, SAFe®, and some predictive approaches, and puts them into context. If you already have two years leading agile teams and understand the fundamentals of the Disciplined Agile tool kit, you’re ready for the Disciplined Agile® Senior Scrum Master (DASSM) Certification. You’ll learn how to optimize how teams work, work with allies within their organization, and solve various advanced problems. You’ll learn to use agile for planning, coordinating, and reporting, and be ready to show your improvements in areas where your organization is struggling. Find more about the DASSM certification here: https://www.pmi.org/certifications/agile-certifications/disciplined-agile-senior-scrum-master-dassm.

If you want to take a deeper dive into agile project management certification that encompasses multiple agile (adaptive) methods, the PMI Agile Certified Practitioner (PMI-ACP)® is the logical next step. PMI says the PMI-ACP certification was created by agilists for agilists. Organizations that are highly agile and responsive to market dynamics complete more of their projects successfully than their slower-moving counterparts—75 percent versus 56 percent—as shown in the PMI 2015 Pulse of the Profession® report. All types of organizations are learning that agile teams get faster results, and they’re eager to hire people with this experience and this credential. Prodevia is bundling some of our product offerings; we’re now offering a Skills Badge Program. We’ve aligned our program to complement the PMI Talent Triangle®, building your skills in project management leadership, strategy and business management, and project management technical skills – the critical skill sets employers are looking for. Prodevia Learning’s programs all offer the ability to earn a badge that you can post on your LinkedIn profile, Facebook page, or Twitter account to validate your professional and technical expertise with potential employers, your peers, and your network.

If you complete 40 credit hours in each of the three areas (leadership, strategy, and technical), you’ll have enough credits to become a Professional Project Executive Level 1. With 240 credit hours, you’ll qualify as a Level 2; 360 hours will qualify you as Level 3; and 500 hours will qualify you as Level 4. You’ll be able to show progression in your training as you progress in your experience.

You know that employers value both proficiency and experience: the ability to research, acquire data, assess it, and define a plan. Project managers must also make accurate estimates of time, resources, and budget, and are good at weighing and managing risk. Great project managers also take charge of their own plan for lifelong learning. This year could be your year to take advantage of the hottest labor market we’ve seen in decades. Investing in your professional development and project management skills is a sure way to stand out from the crowd.
